DANIDA winds up financial support for two of its NGOs

Dalun (N/R), Aug. 14, GNA - Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA), the sole financier of the Ghanaian Danish Communities Association (GDCA) that runs a group of NGOs in the Northern Region, says it will wind up its financial support for two of the organisations by the end of 2008.

The two NGOs are the "Simli Pong," a micro-credit wing of the Ghanaian Danish Community Programme (GDCP) established in 1993, and "Simli" Radio, a community based FM radio established 1995. Dr. Abubakr Al-Hassan, Chairman of the GDCA, announced this when he inaugurated a nine-member board of directors for the organisations at Dalun in the Tolon-Kumbungu District on Saturday.

The Woribogu-Lana Abdulai Alhassan chaired the "Simli Pong" board while Alhaji A. M. Baba also chaired the "Simli" Radio executive committee.

Some of the NGOs that DANIDA still financed included the "School for Life" (SFL) a functional literacy programme and the Community Life Improvement Programmed (CLIP) implementing a micro credit scheme in the districts.

Dr. Al-Hassan urged the board members to bring their experience and expertise to help sustain the operations of the NGOs, since their operations were important to the people in the beneficiary districts. He commended the Danish government for its support to the people for the past six years.
