Court remands farmer for stealing

Nkawie (Ash), Sept. 27, GNA - A 27-year-old farmer, Kofi Joe, was on Thursday remanded by the Atwima District magistrate's court at Nkawie for stealing 424,000 cedis and personal effects valued at 840,000 cedis belonging to Madam Akua Dwira.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentence.

Police Inspector Harrison Agyare told the court that the accused and Madam Dwira both lived at Akataniase near Nkawie.

He said on September 5, this year, the accused approached Madam Dwira and asked her whether she would travel that day but she did not give him any answer.

Inspector Agyare said it, however, turned out that Madam Dwira travelled to Aboabo the same day and on her return discovered that her money and personal belongings had been stolen.

He said Madam Dwira suspected the accused and therefore reported the case to the unit committee who approached the accused to find out whether he was the one who stole the money and the personal effects but he pulled a gun on them.

Inspector Agyare said he was later seen at the outskirts of the town and when they tried to apprehend him, the accused inflicted cutlass wounds on two of the members of the unit committee but they managed to overpower him and handed him over to the police.
