Court remands distiller for raising false alarm

Nyinahin (Ash), Oct. 31, GNA - The Nyinahin Magistrate's Court has remanded a 35-year-old Akpeteshie Distiller in Prison custody for raising false alarm with the intent to instil fear and panic in the public.

Kwadwo Twum of Akotaa village, near Nyinahin, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on November 2.

Police Chief Inspector George K. Letsah told the Court that on March 30, 2004, Twum and his wife went into the Asenano Forest Reserve at Akotaa to harvest some leaves used in wrapping kenkey for sale. He said while in the Forest, the accused called his wife, who was far away from him and told her that he had seen a hunter with a gun lying dead.

Chief Inspector Letsah said Twum then asked his wife to accompany him to take a look at the corpse but the wife refused because she said she was afraid of corpses.

He said when they returned home, Twum started broadcasting to the Akotaa community that he saw a dead hunter in the forest while his wife went and informed the Odikro of the village about the discovery of the corpse.

Chief Inspector Letsah said the Odikro, Nana Okyere Darko, therefore, organised his people to go and look at the supposed dead hunter but that when they got to the forest, Twum could not show them the dead body.

He said the Odikro, therefore, reported the matter to the Police, who also took the accused to the Forest to show them the spot where he saw the dead body but this too he could not do.
