Court remands "Prophet" in police custody

Mankranso (Ash), Dec 27, GNA- The Mankranso Magistrate's court has remanded a 42-year-old Prophet of the Twelve Apostles Church at Asuofua and six church members in police custody for causing harm. The plea of Prophet Emmanuel Attah and the other six were not taken and they will re-appear on January 6, 2004.

Police Inspector Carl Michael Adjeng told the court that three months ago, Alice Quarshie, niece of Nana Amma Konadu, Queen Mother of Aboabo near Akropong in the Atwima District and who resides at Adugyama, accused the Queen mother of being a witch during a quarrel and asked her to send the stool she was occupying to the cemetery where she belonged. He said two weeks later, Alice fell sick and went to Prophet Attah for healing and stayed there till October 12, this year, until she died. Inspector Adjeng said the Prophet and some relatives of the deceased carried the corpse to the Queen mother at Adugyama.

He said the Prophet and some relatives of the deceased, entered the Queen mother's, room, opened her trunk box, took one of her expensive cloths to cover the dead body and destroyed her personal belongings in the room and fled.

Inspector Adjeng said the body was later collected and sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, where a post-mortem revealed that Alice died from heart attack. He said the Queen mother reported the case to the Mankranso police and the Prophet and the accomplices were arrested after investigations.
