Court grants farmer 10 million cedis bail

Ejisu (Ash), Feb. 16, GNA - The Ejisu district court on Monday granted a 37-year-old farmer a 10 million-cedi bail with one surety to justify for an unlawful entry and robbery.

Kwadwo Adu pleaded guilty and he will re-appear on February 27. Police Inspector Nkansah Twumasi-Ankrah told the court that the accused lived in the same house at Ejisu with Mary Mensah, the complainant.

He said on February 12, at about 1830 hours, the accused asked Mary whether she would send her daughter to school and she replied in the affirmative.

Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said Mary later took her daughter to school but found on her return that her room had been broken into and some items, including seven pieces of cloth, a cassette player, shoes and bags, all totalling about 4.5 million cedis and cash of 500,000 cedis had been stolen.

He said the complainant suspected Adu to be the culprit and therefore confronted him but he told her that his room had also been broken into and therefore did not know anything about the theft. The prosecutor said not convinced with the explanation, Mary entered the room of the accused and found her daughter's clothes in the room. She therefore threatened to take the thief to the 'Antoa Nyama' shrine but the accused pleaded with her to exercise restraint since he knew those who stole the items.

Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said when the complainant demanded to know how the accused got to know the robbers, he told her that he consulted the gods.

He said when the accused persistently refused to name the thieves, the complainant reported the case to the police who effected his arrest.
