Court fines driver for reckless driving

Tepa (Ash), Dec 22, GNA - The Tepa circuit court has fined Kofi Asotia, a driver, three million cedis for reckless driving leading to the death of an eight-year-old girl, Rita Boateng. He pleaded guilty.

The prosecution told the court that on October 19, 2000 Asotia, driving an Urvan bus recklessly, knocked down Rita, a primary two pupil, killing her instantly.

The court fined Asotia two million cedis or in default 12 months imprisonment with hard labour and one million cedis compensation to the bereaved family or in default will serve a one-year jail sentence. ?

Two taxi drivers fined for dangerous driving.

Tema, Dec. 22, GNA - Two drivers who jumped queue on the Nungua-Tema beach road and drove recklessly were on Monday fined a total of 2.8 million cedis by a Tema Circuit.

Eric Osei was fined 1.5 million cedis and Stephen Tetteh Gana, 1.3 million cedis. They pleaded guilty and will go to jail for twelve months if they fail to pay the fine.

The court asked Gana, who could not produce his driving licence at the time of his arrest, to submit it to the police. He will reappear in court on January 8, 2004.

The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Peter Adjetey, a driver of a car with registration number GT 9015 T for escaping arrest for committing a similar offence.
