Correspondence from Bono Region

The Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has promised to continue with the provision of general Out-Patients Department (OPD) services despite the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.

The hospital in the interest of public health and quality health delivery says it will continue to render a 24-hour OPD service to its clients.

According to the Medical Superintendent of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, Dr Boateng Bosomtwe, the hospital cannot turn its back on patients because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country.

Dr Boateng reveals that the facility in line with its core mandate will continue to render all services the facility is expected to perform.

He reveals that there are equally critical patients who need to be attended to as well so the hospital cannot abandon its duties at this critical moment.

He, however, appealed to patients whose conditions are not critical to bear with them and stay away for the time being as the hospital tries to adhere to the social distance protocol.

“Closing OPD services has serious consequences and so that option is not on the table for now but we are appealing to patients whose conditions are not critical to hold on since we want to adhere to the social distance policy. We cannot close our OPD since there different cases we have to attend to as well and we do not want to create complications for other patients who may need special attention”.

Dr. Boateng appealed to the public and other civil society organisations to support the hospital by providing more personal protective equipment(PPEs) to aid front line health personnel at the hospital’s isolation centre to be able to deal with the coronavirus should they record a case in the Municipality.

Meanwhile, the Wenchi Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee has rolled out
emergency measures to deal with the outbreak of Coronavirus in the Municipality.
