The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jomoro, Mr. Ernest Kofie in conjunction with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Paul Essien, has donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to Jomoro Municipal Health Directorate to curb the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

The items included; nose masks, surgical gloves, some quantities of protective clothing.

In addition, they also donated 10 cartoons of antibacterial soap, 3 packets of jumbo tissue, alcoholic-based hand sanitizers, washing bowls and Veronica buckets with stands.

After the presentation, the MCE, MP, the NPP Western Regional Chairman Francis Ndede Siah and Jomoro NPP Constituency Executives visited the wards of the Half Assini Government Hospital to distribute alcoholic-based hand sanitizers to the patients on admission.

The aforementioned gesture follows an appeal made by the Jomoro Municipal Health Director to government and other benevolent organizations to come to their aid with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other items.

In an interview with GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent Daniel Kaku, the MCE Mr. Ernest Kofie commended the Health Director and his team for starting the process to assist some health facilities in the Municipality.

He urged the Director to make good use of the items and pledged government's readiness to provide more PPE to the Directorate.

He also applauded the Member of Parliament for the area assisting the Assembly to donate the aforementioned PPE and other items to the Health Directorate.

The MCE disclosed that some of the items would be given to the Half Assini Government Hospital.

Half Assini Government Hospital is one of the selected health facilities in the Western Region that has an Isolation Center to be used to combat the deadly Coronavirus.

He said since the outbreak, he and the MP have been touring some communities and all the four approved borders in the area to educate the masses about the disease.

He added that apart from the donation to the Health Directorate, he has also donated Veronica buckets to some communities within his jurisdiction.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Paul Essien said fighting against this deadly virus should be a shed responsibility and not an individual fight.

He said the world's enemy is the deadly Coronavirus and called on all hands to be on deck to fight it as soon as possible.

He, therefore, condemned those doing partisan politics with the killer Coronavirus, "we should not do politics with this Coronavirus because it doesn't know NPP members, NDC members and other political parties, let us all come together and fight it".

"Is it not good for you to see your MP and MCE working together to donate PPE and Veronica buckets to the Health Directorate and Half Assini Government Hospital so let's emulate", he quizzed.

After the donation, the MP who is also the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs stormed the Tikobo No.1 market to educate the traders.

He also seized the opportunity to share alcoholic-based hand sanitizers to the traders to be used to protect themselves against the Coronavirus.

He urged them to adhere to the precautionary measures outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) Ghana Health Service (GHS).

By ensuring they get items to wash their hands, the MP placed Veronica buckets and liquid soaps at the vantage points of the market.

He also appealed them to stay home and avoid going out indiscriminately.

The MP who had already donated Veronica buckets to all Communities in Jomoro, pledged his commitment to add more Veronica buckets and sanitizers to his Constituents.

Receiving the items, the Jomoro Municipal Health Director, Dr. Sampson Joseph Cudjoe thanked the MCE and MP for the kind gesture.

He said the items would be distributed evenly to all health facilities within the Municipality.

"I am very happy to see these items from our MCE and MP because they promised me to support us with PPE and today they have honoured their promise, let us all pray earnestly for them to do to more", he stressed.

He, therefore took the opportunity to appeal to other benevolent organizations to join the fight by donating more PPE to the Directorate.
