Coordinated security underway to apprehend Peki/Tsito murderers

Ho, Oct. 19, GNA - Mr Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on Tuesday said a coordinated security operation was underway to apprehend the perpetrators of recent murders in the Tsito-Peki areas. He was addressing scores of women from Tsito, dressed and draped in red who trouped to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to petition President John Agyekum Kufuor over the beheading of two citizens of the area on October 4 at Agata, near Tsito.

Mr Dzamesi, flanked by Mr Steve Selormey, Regional Coordinating Director (RCD) and Mr Abraham Klobodu, Regional Security Coordinator, appealed to the public to volunteer information that would facilitate the process of investigations.

He said the atmosphere of insecurity created by the pre-meditated murders hindered development.

Mr Dzamesi promised to pass on the petition, which was also copied to the Volta Regional Minister and the Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), to the President as demanded.

The petition, which was thumb-printed by Mama Adomwaa I, Queen Mother of the Awudome Traditional Area said the murders were not in tune with several peace overtures to feuding traditional areas in the Volta Region lately.

The petition sought to suggest that the murders were linked to the protracted land dispute between the people of Peki on the one hand and the people of Tsito on the other.

The protestors who were transported from Awudome in buses converged at the forecourt of the Public Works Department (PWD) by 1000 hours. After waiting for about an hour without a go-ahead from the Police to move to town as expected, the protestors concealed their placards and proceeded quietly only to emerge at the forecourt of the Regional Administration to the surprise of the workers and authorities.

"The Police knew about our planned protest but wanted to disrupt it, but we were not deterred and went ahead," Madam Cecelia Kunugbe who read the petition, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

Mr Kofi Duku Arthur, Volta Regional Police Commander told a Press Conference in Ho on Sunday that a 70 year old man was found dead on Friday October 15, this year around Peki-Dzogbati, bringing the suspected murders in the area to three within two weeks.
