Construction work on the 2.1 Kilometre Manya-Kpongunor-old Bana School road has commenced.

The construction of the road is expected to ease the inconveniences of commuters of the road as they enjoy smooth shuttling to facilitate development.

The project is not only important for commercial activities, but also vital for education due to a number of educational facilities along the road.
Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey assisted by the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh on Thursday, 14 May 2020, handed over the site to the contractor who commenced work immediately.

Mr. Ayertey who described the project as good news for the people, expressed his profound gratitude to the president, Nana Akuffo Addo, the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darffuor and the ER Coordinating Council for the various roles they played to ensure that the project sees the light of day.

He said, though successive governments had failed to construct the road which has deteriorated over the years, it was time to ensure its construction as this would ease travelling difficulties and provide relief to commuters and drivers.

According to him, government has kept its promise of constructing and tarring the road to facilitate the smooth transportation of goods and services.

He assured the people of quality work as well as the scheduled completion of the project.

The MCE on his part gave the firm assurance of quality work from the contractors to ensure that the people get value for money.

“One thing I can assure you of is that for NPP government, we don’t usually do shoddy work,” Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh assured. “If your work is not the best of the quality that we want, the road minister and the deputy eastern regional minister and myself will come and stop the work.”

He expressed confidence in the contractors to deliver quality work as shoddy roads will not benefit the people and community as expected.

The Assembly Chief also gave the firm assurance of the speedy completion of the project, adding that local labour would be provided for the construction works.

Chairperson of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Samuel Atter Odjelua who regretted the bad nature of the Bana-Manya-Kpongunor road said several attempts to get the road fixed over the years had failed.

The poor access road to the Bana School and training facility, he said, had impeded the Church from organizing regular programs including retreats and other activities at the location.

He was however grateful to the government that contract had finally been awarded for the construction of the road and prayed that work is completed on time as it would enhance patronage of various activities held at the center.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Dorm Matse, Nene Bediako Baah Muala III, party executives of the New Patriotic Party and some Assembly Members.

The contract being executed by Memphis Construction Limited is expected to be completed within twelve months though contractors have assured to complete the project in six months.

The ceremony was greeted with immense relief by people living along the road knowing it would enhance convenient and smooth travelling experience in the area.

The Manya-Kpongunor-old Bana school road is part of a total of 10.1 kilometers of roads being the phase one of road projects currently awarded for construction in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

Other road projects being part of the Phase One include the Atua Government Hospital Road, the Agomanya Airport-Agbom Link, Nuaso Town Road and Link, Kpong Quarters Street and the Kpong Beach Road.
