Company rewards honest worker

Authorities of the Tema Harbour have awarded a casual worker 1,000 euros for exhibiting a high level of commitment and honesty.

Mr. Jacob Adorkor, Director, Tema Harbour, said in February last year Mr. John Mbah, who was a casual worker (driver) at the Tema Port, found a wallet at the port and handed it over to the security which was consequently presented it to authorities for a search to be conducted for the owner.

Mr. Adorkor said the wallet contained 1,700 Euros but for over a year no one came forward to claim the amount.

The Port Authorities the decided to give Mr Mbah 1,000 Euros and the remaining 700 Euros was presented to the Remar Christian Rehabilitation Centre for the payment of the school fees of 34 children next academic year.

Mr. Philip Datey, who received the 700 Euros on behalf of the Remar Christian Rehabilitation Centre, expressed his appreciation for the kind gesture.

Mr. Paul Ansah, Marketing and Public Relations Manager of the Tema Port, said Mr. Mbah would also be unveiled as a business integrity icon in an anti-corruption campaign that would be launched in October which aims at making Tema Port the “cleanest” place to do business in Ghana.

Mr. Ansah said Mr Mbah’s full package would be disclosed when the Business Integrity Project is launched, adding that he had been officially engaged by the Ghana Dock Labour Company as a driver.

He said the project aims at ensuring incident-free transaction of business, where extortion and any form of impropriety would have no place at the Port.
