Community day schools lack effectiveness – Prof Adei

Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Professor Stephen Adei has described government’s community day senior high school project as incomplete and ineffective.

According to Prof. Adei in an exclusive interview with 3FM building schools without thinking about accommodation for teachers and travel distance for the students to get to these schools makes the whole move appear populist.

He argued that the funds invested into the project could have been used for other “more relevant” projects.

“Building a school in community, where students have to walk long distances before getting there is not reasonable enough.

“If we are talking quality education, then we are talking infrastructure, teacher comfort, student accessibility and other relevant measures,” he pointed out.

According to him, government is using the project to save its face and garner for more votes ahead of the 2016 elections.

“These school buildings are not well situated, the government is putting them up just to show that it has done something, but the effects on the people will be insignificant,” he highlighted.
