Community calls for ban cattle grazing in human settlements

Newkrobo (B/A), June 24, GNA - The people of Newkrobo in Techiman municipality in Brong Ahafo have appealed for a ban of cattle grazing in the area.

They said the presence of cattle in the area was promoting the breeding of mosquitoes and other flies, as well as the animals creating an unpleasant situation with their droppings. Nana Twiwani Yeboah, an opinion leader told the Ghana News Agency the cattle moved around the new settlements at Newkrobo and destroyed people's farms.

He said most landlords had become victims of the armed cattle owners, who, he said, directed their animals to pollute river Tano and Atweredaa stream with their droppings. "Several complaints and approaches made by the leadership of the town to the cattle owners have not yielded any positive results", he said.

Nana Twiwani called on the environmental health division to enforce the laws that required that cattle kraals be sited 150 yards away from dwelling places.
