Communities that destroy poles with bushfires be surcharged-Dzamesi

Dambai,(V/R) Feb. 19, GNA - Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister has lauded proposals to charge communities with cost of electricity poles destroyed in bush fires in their areas.

He was addressing staff of government departments, chiefs and other traditional heads at Dambai in the Krachi-East District on the first day of his two-day duty tour of the Krachi-East and West districts.

Mr Dzamesi, who expressed dismay at the vast areas of bush wilfully burnt along with several power distribution cables and poles warned that such communities could remain without electricity until they (communities) replaced the burnt poles.

He commended the level of cooperation among the different ethnic groups in Dambai, which he described as 'Ghana brought to size' since it represented all the ethnic groups in the country and beyond.

The Minister, who is the acting District Chief Executive (DCE) of the newly created district inspected work on the 2.9 billion cedis Assembly Block Complex.

He suggested that the project be suspended to address the structural problems and also finalise purchasing agreement with the landowners. Nana Benyannor II, Chief of Dambai implored the Minister to expedite action on the rehabilitation of roads in the area and the construction of a police station, post office as well as the provision of potable water for Dambai.
