Committee inspects developmental projects at Kasoa

Kasoa, Nov. 17, GNA - The Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance and Poverty Reduction has inspected some development projects at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya District.

The committee, led by its Chairman, Mr James Avedzi, inspected a 30-bed maternity ward estimated 73,496.20 Ghana cedis and five-unit nurses' quarters costing 98,5000 Ghana cedis belonging to the Kasoa Health Centre. Also under construction is a 71,000 Ghana cedi male ward for the health centre.

Other projects the committee inspected were market stalls, an Early Childhood Development Centre and cassava dough platforms at the Kasoa New Market.

The projects are being constructed with an African Development Bank (ADB) loan and supported by the government under the Poverty Reduction Programme. Mr Adams Nuhu, the Chief Executive of the Awutu Senya District, said the only government major projects benefiting the people in the district were the Malam/Kasoa trunk road and the Kasoa Bawjiase Road.

He said there was the need for government financial support and more infrastructure development.

Mr Avedzi said the committee would make informed decisions on what they saw but there was the need for government to give financial support for newly created districts such as the Awutu Senya District to enable them to achieve their development agenda.
