Churches must partner government to fight corruption

Ejura (Ash), Aug. 21, GNA - Mr. Kofi Opoku-Manu, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on churches to partner the government to check cyber fraud and other social vices. They should also accept to use the pulpit to educate their members on the need to pay their taxes. Mr. Opoku-Manu was addressing the 46th annual session of the Ghana Baptist Convention at Ejura.

Speaking on the theme "Harvest Time Today", he commended the Ghana Baptist Convention for its contribution to national development by its establishment of educational institutions and social projects. "The Mission stands out as one Christian institution that has done so much towards the socio-economic development of the country", he said. The Rev Dr. Steven Asante, President of the Convention, said the church was committed to ensuring that the less privileged in the society were given the opportunity to acquire education. He said it was in line with this that the Baptist World Aid, a fund set up by the church, has earmarked US$10,000.00 to support the education of the needy and the poor.

Rev Dr. Fred Deegbe, General-Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, advised church leaders to desist from "planting the seed of wickedness" and to help fight drug menace and other vices in the country.
