Cholera Outbreak Looms As Refuse Mount At Amanase

There is a looming Cholera outbreak at Amanase, a community in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region, as refuse keeps piling-up at a refuse collection center close to one of the few viable markets in the entire district.

The refuse collection center does not only serve the market but the entire community leading to a high rate of waste generation but the failure of Zoomlion to frequently convey the waste to the final disposal sites leaves the refuse containers always full forcing residents to dump indiscriminately polluting the environment and a near-by river.

Some residents disturbed by the sanitation condition called on the Ayensuano District Assembly to intervene to avert a possible outbreak of cholera.

The Ayensuano District spent thousands of cedis to evacuate the mountain of refuse which became a nuisance at the same area some few years ago.

Assembly Member for Amanase South Electoral Area, Prince Michael Goha in an interview with Starr News said the Assembly must take urgent action to avert resurfacing of the previous problem.

The Ayensuano District NADMO Director, Joseph Okai Gyan who was at the refuse site with some of his staff for assessment said the organization will recommend to the assembly to either relocate the refuse collection site or properly manage the waste deposited into the containers by frequently conveying it to the final disposal sites due to its proximity to the market.
