Tension is mounting at Akyem Apedwa in the East Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region, over as an alleged illegal installation of a chief for the area.

They were arrested for violating the public order law by guarding the installation of a certain Yaw Ofosu Boadu as the new chief of Akyem Apedwa.

The installation comes barely a month after the late chief of Apedwa, Osaberima Obenakwa Kwafira II was buried after his funeral was delayed for almost a year.

The late chief died on December 18, 2014 and was buried on 1st November this year.

Members of the Agona Royal Family, reported the matter to the Kyebi Police of which the police secured an injunction from court to stop the installation of the chief.

When the police got information that the installation was taking place, they rushed to stop it but met resistance and had to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.
