Chiefs tour companies in Tema

The Socio-Economic Committee members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday took a familiarization tour of some companies in Tema.

The working tour, which the chiefs termed “Landlord/ Tenant Relationship”, was led by the Chairman, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the Paramount Chief and President of the Osu Traditional Council.

The other chiefs of the entourage included: Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, the Ada Mantse and the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs; Osongaah Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse; Nene Atsure Benta III, the Acting President of Prampram; and Nene Kanor Atiapa, Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Council.

Their first point of call was the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and they were welcomed by the General Manager, Mr Richard A.Y. Anamo who briefed them on the activities and business of the port.

He said the authority do not only collect monies but also dealt in security issues, clearing of cars and other import related activities.

Mr Paul Asare Ansah, the Ports Public Relations Manager, later took the chiefs on a 45-minute sea ferry with some staff members of the port.

The chiefs also visited the Nutrifood Ghana Limited, the producers of Tasty Tomato Paste and were warmly welcomed by Mr Amitav Basak, the Managing Director and his staff.

They were taken round the factory and other areas of the production chain.

Briefing the newsmen after the tour, Nii Kinka Dowuona said their duties as chiefs were not only to solve chieftaincy disputes but also to look at the welfare of the society.

He said as traditional leaders there was the need for them to know at firsthand what is occurring on their lands and to establish a strong and good relationship with the people operating on the land.

Nii Kinka Dowuona urged the companies to call on them as landlords if the need arises.
