Chiefs and people construct sports field

Akrofrom (B/A), July 24, GNA - The chiefs and people of Akrofrom in the Techiman Municipality are constructing an 11 million cedi sports field to promote sports in the community.

The project is being funded through voluntary contributions of 20,000 cedis a man and 10,000 cedis a woman.

Mr. Anthony Twi rpt Twi, Assemblyman of Akrofrom disclosed this to the GNA Sports at Akrofrom after leading Nana Ameyaw Yeboah II, Chief of the area who is also the Asenkyenhene of the Techiman Traditional Area to inspect the progress of work so far.

Mr. Twi said an amount of 7.540 million cedis has so far been spent on the gravelling and shaping of the park and appealed to the community to step up the payment of the special levies for the purchase of nets and iron poles.

Nana Yeboah commended the people for their foresight in the promotion of sports in the area and promised to provide the remaining amount for the speedy completion of the park. In a bid to boost sports in the community, a soccer club has been formed by Nana Yeboah to be known as 'Ameyaw Stars Football Club. The Asenkyenhene called on talented soccer stars especially the youth in the community to register with the club and also support the development of the club.

Meanwhile, Messrs Tommy Lee and Kofi Annor, both businessmen of Techiman and citizens of Akrofrom have jointly donated a football worth 300,000 cedis to the Club in appreciation of the efforts of the chief to promote sports amongst the youth of the area. 24 July 05
