Chiefs Release Land For Special Species of Casava

The chiefs in the upper Denkyira district during the period released 6,000 acres of land for the cultivation of special species of cassava from which large quantities of starch will be processed at a factory proposed to be established at Dunkwo-On-Offin under the president’s special initiative.

This was made known at a forum held at the Denyirahene’s palace to discuss the unemployment problem in the district. According to the acting President of the Upper Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Ntobonkyi II, several acres of land have already been cultivated with the special species of cassava ready to feed the factory if it is put up now.

Nana Ntobonkyi said that the collapse of the Dunkan Continental Goldfields Limited and the Ashanti Goldfields Company, Ayanfuri Limited has brought in its time a high rate of unemployment in the area with its attendant problems. He therefore appealed to the government to consider their plight and speed up action on the proposed factory to create jobs or the youth in the area to help curb the brain drain of the youth in search o non-existing jobs.

Nana concluded that the site for the factory is ready and they are only waiting for action from the government to fulfill its promise to the people of Dunkwa.
