Chief of Mim joins campaign against HIV/AIDS

Mim (B/A), July 4, GNA - Nana Dr Okoforobour Yaw Agyei, President of Mim Traditional Council, has appealed to the youth to desist from sexual promiscuity to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS. Making the call at the launch of a programme on the pandemic, the chief expressed regret that public response did not correspond with the level of education campaign against the spread of the disease. The campaign was organised by Mim Quartet Choir Groups, a community-based organization that added a musical dimension to the campaign against HIV/AIDS.

The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Mr Ben Osei Kufuor, re-affirmed the government's determination to extend the HIV/AIDS message to the doorsteps of people in the rural area to help curb the spread of the pandemic. He said the government had attached great attention to the prevention of the spread of the disease "because it could wipe away the entire youth population who constitute the bulk of the nation's labour force."

Dr Badu Sarkodie, Asunafo District Director of Health Services, in a speech read for him, cautioned the youth against lesbianism and homosexual relationships. He appealed to students to abstinence from pre-marital sex, change their behaviours and to be disciplined.

Mr Baah Bofah, founder and Executive Director of Mim Quartet Choir Groups, who is also the Headmaster of Dormaa Secondary School, said he was compelled by his personal interaction with students to join the AIDS campaign. He expressed gratitude to the Ghana AIDS Commission for its financial and moral support for groups involved in the campaign.
