Chief gives land to youth for farming

Wenchi, Aug 10, GNA - Nana Adomako Ababio, Chief of Akrobi near Wenchi in Brong-Ahafo Region, has allocated a 100-hectre-farm land to the Wenchi District Secretariat of the National Youth Council (NYC) so that the youth in the area could use it for their farming activities. Mr Moses Kwame Tane, District Coordinator of the Council, told the Mr Tane said about 25 unemployed youth would be drawn from the communities to work on the land and NYC would provide seed maize, pepper and fertilizers.

Mr Tane commended Nana Ababio for his concern for the development of the area.

He said some young people of Wenchi who had undergone training at Youth Leadership Training institutions across the nation and have skills in dressmaking, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, catering and computer literacy are without jobs.

They cannot start their own businesses because they do not have working tools, Mr Tane said.

He said he has pleaded with the Wenchi District Assembly to provide some credit facilities under the Poverty Alleviation Fund to the unemployed skilled youth.
