Chief donates six computers to basic school

Atwima Mim (Ash), June 18, GNA - Nana Kofi Adu III, Wireduhene of Atwima Mim, has invested over GH¢12,300 towards the provision of infrastructure and other facilities at the Local Basic School in the Atwima Nwabiagya District since his enstoolment four years ago. He has provided electricity to the school, renovated it and moulded 8,000 cement blocks to put up additional classrooms. The latest was the provision of six computers and accessories.

Presenting the computers to the Atwima Nwabiagya District Director of Education at a ceremony at Atwima-Mim in the District on Tuesday, Nana Kofi Adu said his prime concern was to mobilise every available resource to improve educational delivery in the area.

He advised his colleague chiefs to make education delivery their foremost priority and desist from engaging in chieftaincy disputes and other acts that tend to retard progress and development.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, the District Chief Executive said, the government and the District Assembly invested greater percentage of its revenue in education and advised parents to complement the effort by encouraging their children to enrol in schools.

The District Assembly, he said, had completed the re-roofing of the Local Primary School, the roofs of which were ripped-off after a rainstorm hit the area sometime ago.

Mr Ofori-Donkor called on the youth not to engage in acts that would mar the beauty, fairness and smooth organization of the impending general elections in December.

Mrs Diana Appiah, the District Director of Education who received the computers on behalf of the school, said the increasing use of computers has led to the development of new technologies. In the 21st Century, she said, computer literacy had undoubtedly become pre-requisite in every career. Mrs Appiah observed that, Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) has promoted contacts among nations, companies and peoples from different parts of the world very fast. She said the use of computers made teaching and learning easier and thanked Nana Adu Kofi for the gesture.
