Chief bans rearing of goats and pigs

Oberempon Sintim Opoku III, Chief of Akim Manso in the Eastern Region, has banned the rearing of goats and pigs in the town.

According to him, the ban was directed by a god “Tanor” of the town.

Speaking at a durbar of the chiefs and people at Akim Manso, he said it is abominable for one to rear those animals in the community.

He said families who refuse to obey the order should not blame the traditional leaders of any spiritual consequences.

Oberempon Sintim Opoku, also the Benkumhene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, explained that the norms and traditions of the land play part in the development, peace and inculcation of obedience in the people and therefore they must be observed as such.

Giving a history about the festival, Oberempon Sintim Opoku said, the Odwira festival is celebrated to cleanse and purify the traditional stool and the entire township.

The Chief appealed to the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to provide the Atweaman Senior High Technical School with girls' dormitory to prevent the students from renting houses, which leads them to social vices.

Mr Kwabena Nkansah Asare, the Municipal Chief Executive, applauded the cordial relationship among the members of political parties that led to the peaceful limited voters registration exercise in the area and advised them to repeat same in the November 7 general election.

He gave the assurance of making provision of girls’ dormitory for the Atweaman Senior High Technical School and to undertake other projects to continue to bring facelift to the municipality.
