Chief appeals to Community to make peace

Naba Peter Apeeyele, the Chief of Gowrie, has appealed to the people of his traditional area to bury their differences for the sake of peace and development.

The Chief who made the appeal at Gowrie during the third Annual Gowrie Homecoming celebration with the theme “Our Culture, the Tool for Reforming the Youth in Our Generation” said political and sectional differences exhibited by some members in the community were thwarting the efforts to develop the area.

“We are all one people with a common destiny. We should not allow any difference to divide us since that will continue to undermine the development of Gowrie. Let us all unite for a common goal to fight illiteracy, hunger and diseases which are our common enemies,” he said.

Mr Maclean Ayamga, Assemblyman for the area, appealed to the Bongo District Assembly to help the area with water and electricity and to work on the bridges in the area as well as complete the building of a school in the area that had been neglected.

He appealed to the aspirants of the forthcoming District Assembly elections to eschew character assassination in their campaigns since that would not augur well for the area.

The Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly stressed on the need for parents to invest well in their children’s education.

Mr Christopher Anibila Azaare who delivered a Paper on the theme, stressed the need to revisit their culture, saying that could help address the numerous challenges of the current generation.

He said or instance that in the Frafra traditional area, the forefathers viewed the earth as a symbolic womb and it was a taboo to set fire indiscriminately to burn the living organisms in it.

He said of late traditional food items that were highly nutritious and good for health were being abandoned.

As part of activities to mark the homecoming celebration, the Youth of Gowrie undertook a three-hour clean-up exercise at the market, the surroundings of the Gowrie Senior High School, the health facilities and the Chief’s Palace.
