Chief appeals for Minister’s intervention

Nii Okropong I, Dzaasetse of Obeyeyie, near Amasaman, has appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo to intervene for the release of a portion of land sold to an individual.

He said the 300-acre land sold out had curtailed the provision of development projects such as market, police station, lorry parks, health centre and even a space for cemetery.

Nii Okropong made the appeal when he spoke with the GNA after meeting the inhabitants of Obeyeyie in the Ga West Municipality.

He said if part of the land was claimed for the community it would help to enhance revenue for the municipal assembly and also create job opportunities for the youth in area.

He said the land belonged to the late Nii Kofi Tsru of Obeyeyie but was sold by a faction led by one Kwasi Agyei who took advantage of his long stay in the community to sell the land.

Nii Okropong said the lack of land space for social amenities was creating tension among the youth and pleaded with the Regional Minister to take the matter seriously and act upon it.

“It is in fact a worry to us the chiefs and queen mothers in the area that we don’t have a cemetery to bury the dead and to carry them to other places,” he said.
