Chief Decries Govts. Abandoning Projects

The culture of governments abandoning viable projects initiated by their predecessors always retards the development of this country.

This was the conviction expressed in an interview with the media at the palace of the Paramount Chief of the Tepa Traditional Area, Nana Adusei Atwenewaah Ampem I. He noted that if such acts did not cease, it would be impossible for the country to develop.

The Paramount Chief made these remarks in response to a question posed to him on the construction of the Ahafo Stadium, initiated by the previous government, that generated a lot of media attention about the approach of the stadium by the out-going District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Adu Poku.

Nana Ampem told journalists that one of the projects dear to the heart of the people of the Tepa traditional area and Ahafos in general was the Ahafo Stadium at Tepa and they expected the in-coming DCE, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, to tackle it as a priority.

According to him, the stadium, when constructed, would enhance sporting activities in the area, as sports is another fast developing sector that needs attention from the government.

The Paramount chief said, "apart from the construction of the stadium, we would be grateful if the government could pay attention to the development of the road network in the district."

He mentioned the roads as Akwasiase-Marfo, Anyinasu-Betiako roads and the Asuhyiaso Bridge, which he appealed to the government to construct to facilitate transportation of foodstuffs to Tepa and eventually to Kumasi.

Nana Ampem also appealed to the government to tackle the Tepa town market to increase revenue for the assembly.

To ensure sufficient security in the district, Nana Ampem urged the government to increase the strength of police personnel and also open some police stations at the two other traditional areas, Maabang and Manfo.

On what the three traditional areas would be expecting from the newly confirmed DCE, Nana Ampem assured that he and his colleagues in the district would work closely with him to ensure the speedy development of the area.

"We shall advise him from the traditional point of view and we hope he would also heed our advice, in the interest of peace and development," Nana Ampem assured.

Later, in an interview with the DCE-elect, shortly after his confirmation, which gave him 44 votes as against 5, representing 89.80%, Nana Prempeh, a former Presiding Member of the Ahafo Ano North District Assembly, called on his detractors to give up their selfish interests and join hands with him to move the district forward.

The DCE promised to work closely with the three traditional areas in his district to ensure development.
