The Konkomba Youth Association in Accra has expressed its displeasure with the ongoing conflict between the Konkombas and Chokosis.

Addressing the media at the Accra International Press Center, the group made an appeal to government to help restore peace to Chereponi so residents can live in harmony again.

It will be recalled that the clashes between the Konkomba and Chekosi ethnic groups at Naaduni over an alleged land dispute has led to the loss of several lives and properties.

In all over thirteen persons were arrested in connection with the violent clashes between the two ethnic groups but they were later released without charge.

Based on this the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, inaugurated a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the incident that led to deadly clashes between the Konkombas and Chokosis in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region.

The group trusts the committee will do a good job and bring all the perpetrators to book.

“I have confidence in the committee, I have confidence in the people on the committee, I believe they can do a good job and bring the perpetrators to book so that peace can prevail in the environment,” Spokesperson for the group, Isaac Phoyon stressed.

The group accused the DCE of Chereponi, Tahiru Abdul-Razak of inciting conflicts between the Konkomba and Chekosi ethnic groups.

They also accused him of favouring his people (the Chekosi) by not obeying the curfew that has been placed on them.

“ Honourable Tahiru Adul-Razak has failed to enforce the curfew imposed on his district, why will he permit his kinsmen and women to break the curfew imposed and still celebrate wedding ceremony up to 11 pm, are his Kinsmen and women above the law,” he quizzed.

Again, the Konkomba Youth Association, say they are disappointed in their DCE since his comment on some media platforms instead of promoting peace, rather sought to create more confusion. They are therefore appealing to President Akufo-Addo to reconsider Abdul-Razak’s appointment as the DCE of Chereponi.
