Central Gonja deserves a hospital- District Director of Health

Buipe, (N/R), Nov. 13, GNA - Madam Habiba Amadu Daison, Central Gonj= a District Director of Health, has appealed to the government and the Unite= d Nations Agencies to provide a district hospital to handle the major medic= al problems recorded in the area. She said the district is strategically located and therefore needs a=

bigger health facility to cater for medical emergencies. Madam Daison made the appeal when the World Health Organisation, presented medical supplies valued at GH¢ 3,500.00 to the district to ca= ter for flood victims in the area. The medical supplies included; scalp vein infusion set, disposable hypodermic needles, forceps, syringes, zinc oxide plasters, trays and toi= let soap. Madam Daison said the floods could lead to the outbreak of cholera a= nd other water borne diseases, which could overwhelm the staff of the Buipe Health Centre, which is the largest medical facility in the district. Mr Issifu Salisu Be-Awuribe, District Chief Executive said 55 communities were affected by the floods, with 25 localities submerged whi= le 30,000 people were displaced. He said 65 schools and 15 boreholes were also distressed by the disaster.
