Census enumerators for Central Region dispatched

Cape Coast, Sept. 28, GNA - Four thousand enumerators have been dispatched to carry out the 2010 Population and Housing Census in the Central Region, the Regional Statistician and Census Officer, Mr. Francis Bright Mensah, told the GNA on Monday.

He said in Cape Coast, on the census night, people who were counted were the floating population and outdoor sleepers as well as the mentally challenged in Sunturk, Boakye Ansah and Melcom areas. Mr Mensah said materials for the exercise arrived last Sunday and distribution was done to enable the officials carry out their assignment without any hitch and that earlier in the day, people in institutions like hospitals and hotels were counted.

When the GNA visited the Cape Coast Chapel Square area at midnight some officials including the Regional Minister, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa Doe, were present to ensure the smooth take off of the exercise. Mrs Benyiwa Doe appealed to the public to cooperate with census officials.

The Mayor of Cape Coast, Mr. Anthony Egyir Aikins, appealed to the people of Cape Coast to provide all the information needed because the data collected would be used to plan the development of the municipality.
