A carbide cylinder explosion at Suame Magazine Zone 18 in Kumasi has left a driver’s assistant in his 40s critically injured.

The incident according to a report by adomonline.com,on September 2, 2025, occurred at a mechanic shop where the victim had accompanied a driver to repair their vehicle.

According to an eyewitness, Kwame Appiah, a loud blast from a carbide cylinder startled workers in the area.

Upon rushing to the scene, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.

The injured man was immediately rushed to Tafo Government Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for specialised care due to the severity of his condition.

“We haven’t experienced such an incident in Suame Magazine before, ever since I came here,” Appiah told Adom News.

He explained that the explosion occurred in the absence of the shop owner, adding, “The man was waiting for his master and the shop owner to repair the fault they came with, but no one can tell how the carbide cylinder exploded.”

The incident has sparked fear among artisans at Suame Magazine, many of whom rely on carbide cylinders for their daily work.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
