An accident on the Atafoa Highway in the Kumasi Metropolis resulted in a Lancer vehicle catching fire after a head-on collision with a taxi on Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025.
The incident, which occurred at 6:40 am, also involved a Sprinter bus, leaving all three vehicles significantly damaged but with no fatalities reported.
According to a 3news.com report, the Lancer, with registration number GT 8233-V, was carrying a woman and two children en route to a church in Barekese when it collided at high speed with a taxi with registered number AS 5533-19.

The impact caused the Lancer to subsequently hit a Sprinter bus with registered number CR 1466-22, before its bonnet and front section erupted in flames, reducing the car to ashes.
An eyewitness, identified as Uncle Atta, stated that a team from the Ghana Fire Service and the police responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to douse the fire within 45 minutes.
Their timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to nearby properties and equipment.
Despite extensive damage to the front sections of both the taxi and the Sprinter, no further harm was reported.

The woman in the Lancer was promptly rushed to County Hospital at Abrepo, near Kumasi Girls Senior High School, for medical attention.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, with preliminary reports suggesting high speed as a contributing factor.
