Cape Coast Water System To Be Rehabilitated

The Government has secured a 40 million euro loan from the Netherlands to undertake rehabilitation and expansion works on the Cape Coast water supply system.

Construction work on the project is expected to start by September this year. The project will involve the construction of a raw water intake station on the Pra River, construction of a new water treatment plant, construction of clear water pumping station, construction of a new reservoir at Mawakpor, the rehabilitation of the Brimsu headworks, among others.

The managing director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr Samuel G.O. Lamptey, announced this when he and the minister for works and housing, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, his deputy, Mr Isaah Ketekewu, and the deputy Central regional minister, Nana Ato Arthur, toured some water treatment plants in the Central Region.

Mr Lamptey said when completed, the project was expected to improve the water supply situation in Cape Coast and its environs.
