CHRAJ launches 10th anniversary in Asuogyeman district

Atimpoku (E/R), Sept. 17, GNA - The Asuogyaman District Directorate of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Tuesday launched a weeklong programme to mark the ten years of the Commission at Atimpoku in the Eastern Region.

As part of the celebration, the Directorate will hold symposia for Senior Secondary Schools and Junior Secondary Schools and interact with the public through organised bodies such as Unit Committees, churches and other selected bodies.

The District Director of the Commission, Mr Thomas Korankye, said even though the Commission had made strides in the past ten years in addressing human rights issue, there was still the need to bring more information closer to the people.

He said the Commission had a staff of proven ability to tackle all forms of human rights abuses and related problems, but expressed regretted that due to the lack of knowledge and courage, some citizens allowed a few people to abuse their rights. Mr Korankye therefore expressed the hope that Ghanaians would take advantage of the "new order" to be abreast with their civic responsibilities in order to safeguard their own interest.
