CEDEP Donates Educational Materials to 120 Needy Children

Kumasi, Nov.10, GNA- The Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), on Friday donated a number of educational materials worth several millions of cedis to some 120 needy pupils of the Asawasi Metropolitan Authority (M/A) Primary School in Kumasi.

The items included school uniforms and bags, footwear, mathematical sets, drawing boards, textbooks, exercise books and other stationery.

Donating the items on behalf of CEDEP, Mr. Anthony Agyemang, Head of the Kumasi branch of the Department of Social Welfare, said the gesture was to support the beneficiary children in their educational development.

He said it was also in line with efforts by the ILO to encourage the children to be serious with their education, instead of engaging themselves in child labour and other street activities.

The ILO, he said, had resolved to resettle about 1000 street children in the Ashanti Region, and give them the necessary support in their educational developments to enable them to lead meaningful lives in future.

Mr. Agyemang expressed the hope that the items which

were distributed directly to the children would achieve the

purpose for which they were donated. Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency,

some of the beneficiary children thanked the donors for the

gesture and said they would study hard to become responsible

adults in future.
