CBOs must fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS

Kranka (B/A), Aug. 26, GNA- Mr Solomon Obeng-Danquah, Nkoranza District HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Person has urged Community Based Organisation (CBOs) to fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Addressing members of CBOs at Kranka and Yefri at a two-day workshop on the management of HIV/AIDS at Kranka, he advised them to consider the work as sacrificial and voluntary.

He urged them to strictly operate according to the guidelines set for the management of the fund in their activities and not to design their own plans to make the fund go waste.

Mr Obeng-Danquah asked the CBOs to operate within their limits as they were not medical officers and said seven new CDOs had been formed in the district to undertake HIV programmes. He advised members to keep records of their activities and to report their problems to his office for solution.

He appealed to the public to desist from discriminating and stigmatizing against people living with the pandemic. "People living with HIV/AIDS are still our brothers, sisters and family members and they must be encouraged to sustain their interests, and live longer", he said.

Mr John Amisare-Bekoe, the workshop prefect, commended the Government and the Ghana AIDS Commission, as well as the Nkoranza District Assembly for putting the necessary structures to combat The disease.
