Bushfire destroys plantation at Tafi-Agbome

Tafi-Agbome (V/R), March 12, GNA- A large portion of mango plantation inter planted with pineapples belonging to the Volta Integrated Agricultural Development (VIAD) at Tafi-Agbome in the Hohoe District has been destroyed by bushfire.

Mr Moses Kumah, Farm Manager for VIAD, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the bushfire started early in the morning on February 10th destroying and mango trees and pineapples estimated at GHc 250,000.

He appealed to government and financial institutions assist the company with planting materials, fertilizers, agro-chemicals and financial support to enable it rehabilitate the plantation. Mr Geoffrey Honu, Hohoe District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, told the GNA that the directorate would assess the impact of bushfires on agricultural production in the district. The GNA learnt that two persons, one at Nyagbo-Gagbefe and the other at Alavanyo-Kpeme both in the District who attempted to extinguish fires on their farms, died.
