Bukere Primary raises 1.7 million cedis for school block

Bolgatanga, Feb. 13, GNA- Bukere Primary School in the Bolgatanga Municipality on Wednesday realised 1.7 million cedis at a fund-raising ceremony for the construction of a six-classroom block. It was organised by the school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) as part of efforts to abolish the shift system due to inadequate classroom facilities.

Speaking at the function, Mr Nicholas Nayembil, acting Municipal Director of Education, said government alone could not bear the cost of education and urged parents to invest in their wards' education. He commended the PTA for its initiative and urged other schools to emulate the Bukere community. He further urged the teachers to be committed to ensuring quality standards of education in the school. Madam Gandaa Felicitas Surizana, Headmistress of the school, said the shift system encouraged truancy and absenteeism in the school, adding that there was the need for all schools to make a concerted effort to phase out the system.

She said the school had moulded cement blocks at the cost of three million cedis with assistance from LINK Community, a British educational NGO.
