Brong-Ahafo records more accidents

Assistant Superintendent of Police David Nyuah has said Brong-Ahafo Region recorded 938 accident cases last year as against 717 cases in 2013.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, he expressed concern about the spate of accidents in the Region and called on all to help curb them.

He said 383 people died in the accident and 1,318 people were injured against 889 injuries in the year 2013.

ASP Nyuah said among the persons killed above 18 years were 246 and 36 below 18 years.

He said 701 commercial vehicles, 353 private and 314 motor bikes were involved in the accidents in which 201 of the cases were fatal and 240 were serious.

He said a total of 152 pedestrians were knocked down.

ASP Nyauh appealed to passengers to speak out when they realised their lives were in danger and they had every right to ask the driver to stop for them to get out of the car.

He said MTTD would step up its education programmes both on air and at the lorry parks to help minimise accidents in the Region.

ASP Nyauh appealed to drivers to be familiar with road signs and road regulations and also desist from over speeding and wrong overtaking which usually resulted in accident.
