Brong Ahafo celebrate Anniversary with fun games

Odumasi, (B/A) March 9, GNA - As part of the activities marking Ghana's Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebration, the Brong Ahafo bramches of the National Youth Council and the National Youth Employment Programme on Thursday organized its regional fun games drawn from the Sunyani Municipality and other Districts at the Odumasi Methodist Basic School Park near Sunyani.

The youth fiesta which brought together 25 youth groups was held simultaneously across the country, and brought together 1,300 youths in the Brong Ahafo Region who competed in a variety of games including sack race, soccer, tug of war draught and other sporting events.

Mr. Edward Kofi Agyemang, Acting National Youth Council Coordinator, in an address said since the youth were expected to be the future leaders, there was the need to involve them in national issues to increase their level of understanding on major issues affecting the nation.

He said it was for that reason that the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment and the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat decided to organize the programme to get the youth actively involved in the anniversary celebration so as to be part of efforts at nation-building. Mr. Frederick Duah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Liaison Officer for the National Youth Employment Programme appealed to the youth to venture into agri-business following the huge financial commitment allocated to the sector under the Youth Employment Programme.

He said a total of 8891 people have so far been recruited under the various modules of the programme in the Region and stressed that the engagement of services of the unemployed was devoid of partisan politics since it was based on a presidential directive.
