Brim South Insurance Scheme registered 17,020 people

Akim Oda, April 18, GNA - The Brim South District National Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has registered 17,020 people, Mr Yaw Amprofi, the acting District Chief Executive (DCE) said on Monday.

He the GNA in an interview that the registered members included 3,000 fully paid members from the informal sector, 4,800 Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributors, 8,020 children and 1,200 people above 70 years.

He said the scheme had generated revenue of 216 million cedis from the members in the informal sector.

Mr Amprofi appealed to people to ensure that their environment was clean at all times to prevent them from falling sick frequently to help sustain the scheme.

On the fuel price increases, he said it was "a necessary evil", adding "there is no way the government can reduce the prices without dislocating the economy."

The DCE appealed to the people to bear with the government on its economic policies and that though some of the policies might seem harsh, "they were necessary to help lay a solid foundation for the future."
