Boye Mensah leads clean-up exercise in Akomfra area

Mr Raphael Nii Boye Mensah, an aspiring Assembly Member for the Nii Ashitey Akomfra Electoral Area in Teshie at the week-end led the youth to undertake a clean-up exercise along the main road of the town.

The youth, mainly from the Club de 18th, a development oriented youth group, cleaned the main road and painted the pedestrian walkway and the zebra crossing.

Waste collection agency, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, provided trucks to cart the waste away.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Mensah commended the participants for their communal spirit, and promised to lead more of such exercises to keep the environment clean.

He however expressed dissatisfaction at the low turn-out despite invitations being sent to other youth clubs and most people in the area to take part in the exercise.

According to Mr Mensah, the exercise was to improve the environment for the annual Homowo festival.

He was not happy at the sight of choked gutters in some parts of the town, which eventually deposits undesirable materials into the Sango Lagoon.

He called on individuals and groups to assist in improving the drainage system in the town.

Citing a very weak bridge over a water course in a neighbourhood called Flodan, Mr Mensah appealed to the Government to work on the drainage system as well as the road network in the community.

He promised to prioritize the education of vulnerable children, especially those out of school, if he gets the nod of the Nii Ashitey Akomfra Electorate at the next district level elections.

The Electoral Commission has set September 1, 2015 for this year’s District Assembly elections in all electoral areas and units, except those in the Lower Manya Krobo district in the Eastern Region.

The new date follows a Supreme Court ruling, which declared an earlier election, which was slated for March 3 as unconstitutional. The Electoral Commission was thus ordered to re-start the entire processes all over again.
