Bolgatanga Assembly receives 393 Million Cedis

The government has made available to the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly 273 million cedis for disbursement under the Senior Minister's Farmers' Loan Scheme.

The scheme is one of the avenues through which government seeks to assist farmers to expand their farms.

The Assembly has also received 120 million cedis for the implementation of the Women Development Fund to support women's groups to undertake income-generating ventures.

Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, said this during a meeting of the Assembly's Executive Committee on Thursday.

He said the government had recognized the economic vulnerability of women in the rural areas and created the fund to assist them to undertake commercial ventures that would reduce poverty and improve their living conditions.

Mr Bukari said a committee would soon be set up to disburse the funds to beneficiary groups in the District and expressed the hope that the committee would carry out its role transparently to avoid suspicion and mistrust.

He expressed regret that most beneficiaries of the Poverty Alleviation Fund had still not repaid their loans fully to the Assembly and urged the people to carry out loan repayments with the same enthusiasm as they did when receiving those loans.
