The Boafo Foundation has donated 10,000 exercise books to 2,000 schoolchildren in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality in memory of the late E.K. Boafo, a dedicated educationist who spent his life championing quality education for deprived communities.
The donation, which coincided with the second anniversary of his passing and what would have been his birthday, was described by the family as a continuation of his lifelong mission to support children through education.
Speaking at the ceremony, the son of Mr E.K. Boafo, Mr Fiifi Boafo, on behalf of the family, said the late Mr E.K. Boafo strongly believed that education was the most powerful tool to uplift children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
“Our father devoted his entire career to education. This donation is not just about exercise books but a reflection of his legacy of compassion, service, and commitment to improving education,” he said.
Receiving the items, a Deputy Director in charge of Finance and Administration, William Boss-Baiden, thanked the family for the gesture and praised them, saying it would go a long way to improve the academic performance of the beneficiaries. He admonished the children to study hard so that the soul of Mr E.K. Boafo will be happy.
The event brought together chiefs, teachers, pupils, and community leaders who commended the Foundation’s gesture.
Fiifi Boafo recalled stories shared by his father, including that of twins who walked several kilometres daily to attend school and a child who answered in an interview that a “block is used to lock a door.” These, he noted, reflected the challenges of deprived communities and the need for empathy in educational assessment.
The family pledged to continue supporting education in the district and beyond, assuring stakeholders that this annual initiative will be sustained in honour of E.K. Boafo’s legacy.
Community leaders and teachers present also pledged their support to nurture children in their care, with a renewed commitment to collaboration for educational development in Tarkwa Nsuaem.
