Bishop lays foundation stone for Asokwa Methodist Church

Kumasi, Sept. 21, GNA -The Right Reverend Nuh Abubekr, Methodist Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese, on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Asokwa Methodist Church in Kumasi.

The construction of the church building estimated at 400 million cedis is to give Methodists in the Asokwa area their own place of worship to ease the congestion at the Amakom Calvary Methodist Church where hitherto they all worshiped.

So far about 120 million cedis had been sunk into the foundation of the church, started about four years ago.

The Very Reverend Major D. Ebo Ephrain, Minister in-charge of Asokwa said the Church had to spend a lot of money on the foundation because the land was water-logged.

He said presently, they worshipped in one of the classrooms of the Asokwa Presbyterian school but will start worshipping at the church now that the fou9ndation stone had been laid.

Mr. Francis Afukaa, Caretaker of the Church said they expect to complete the building early next year and that funds will be raised through harvests and donations.

Delivering the sermon, the Right Reverend Abubekr told the congregation of the need to put extra effort to get the church building completed.

He reminded them that the building was being put up for the worship of God and should therefore, be regarded as an obligation to their creator.
