Birim South Assembly revenue collectors misappropriate funds

Akim Oda (E/R), June 8, GNA - An interim audit inspection report on the accounts of the Birim South District Assembly has revealed that some revenue collectors misappropriated a total of 42.6 million cedis through the manipulation of figures in the cash books and tickets unaccounted for. The audited report, which was signed by the District Auditor of the Ghana Audit Service, Mr K. O. Adjarko, covered the period between October 2003 and May 2004. It named some of the culprits as Richard Amonti, J.K. Afrifa, Samuel Bredu, Mohammed Alhasan, Doris Sarfo, Emmanuel Tetteh, Mark Appiah, Kwame Adu Asamoah and Oheneba Siaw.

The report observed that the misappropriation was made possible as a result of ineffective supervision over the collectors. The report recommended to management to apply effective monitoring and supervision over the collectors to ensure maximum results and also to take steps to have the total amount refunded by the concerned collectors.
