Binduri Assembly plans to boost revenue mobilization

The Binduri District Assembly has outlined some stringent measures to boost the assembly’s revenue mobilization drive.

The district, which was carved out of the Bawku Municipality, has been challenged with financial constraints as a result of poor methods applied in mobilizing revenue.

Among these measures are the motivation of revenue collectors, restructuring of the assembly’s tax force, monitoring, supervision and general public education on the need for people to pay their taxes.

This came out at the second ordinary session of the general assembly to elaborate on issues affecting the development of the young district.

Mr. Daniel Adoliba Akologo, the District Chief Executive, said there was the need for more efforts to increase internally generated funds to hit the target of 85,950.00 Ghana cedis by the end of the year.

The DCE therefore called for urgent action from the local government Ministry to rescue the young district.

He said, in spite of the challenges, the district had embarked on projects including rural electrification, social opportunity, street naming, property addressing and the relocation of the district capital among others.

He said about 60 percent of the rural electrification project had been completed, and 75 percent of the street naming, and property addressing project had been completed.

Mr. Akologo said education was a priority of the district and is sponsoring 50 students in the teacher and nursing training colleges who are expected to come out after completion and serve the district.

He expressed regret at the delays in the payment of the Common Fund, “government had allocated 2,113,950.00 Ghana cedis to the district for 2014, but the district is yet to receive it”.
