Bimoba students laud the creation of new district

Accra, March 14, GNA - The University of Ghana branch of the Bimoba Students' Union (BISU) has commended government for creating a Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo district out of the East Mamprusi district, saying it had been a long cherished dream of the people.

A statement issued by the union and signed by its President, Mr Roland Baba Lambo, said the creation of the district demonstrated government's willingness to listen to the voiceless in the society and that this would bring governance and participatory democracy to the doorsteps of the people.

The Bimoba Students' Union appealed to the citizenry and residents of the new district to remain united and refrain from acts that may compromise the peace and unity the area was enjoying.

The statement said the creation of the new district was a big challenge to the sons and daughters of the area, stating that the development agenda would be defeated if citizens failed to contribute their quota towards the upliftment of the new district.

"The people should note that with the advent of the current democratic dispensation and decentralization programme, the extent of development in each district assembly is backed by effective revenue mobilization mechanism and the judicious use of funds to improve the lifestyle of the people."

BISU called on the people of Bimoba to honour their tax obligations since part of the revenue collected from taxes would be used to develop the area.
