Berekum West MP commissions maternity ward for Nkyekyemamu community

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West in the Bono Region and also Deputy Minister for Railways, Mr. Kwaku Agyenim Boateng, has commissioned a Maternity Ward for the Nkyekyemamu Health Centre in the district.

The MP also donated some medical items to the facility.

The centre was a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with only one room for clinical works, compelling people within the community to travel to nearby towns during times of delivery.

Agyenim Boateng felt this was unacceptable and decided to put up a maternity ward for them with the needed logistics to work.

In October last year, the management of the Amankwokwaa CHPS compound appealed for logistical support to enable the facility function properly.

Subsequently, the MP has donated, hospital beds, fridges, a weighing machine, office chairs, client waiting-chairs, TV, office tables, and office locker to the facility

The same set of items was donated to the Nkyekyemamu and Botokrom health centres.

The MP also donated 57 dual desks each to the communities, and gave the assurance that “there are about 20,000 desks which are available for distribution to all the schools in the constituency to end the inconvenience pupils go through due to unavailability of comfortable seats.”

He also hinted that soon over 200 chairs and tables would be made available to staff of the various schools in the Berekum West Constituency.

He urged the health and education directorates to put the items to good use and maintain them.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng gave the assurance that there were adequate plans for the health and education directorates in the district to make them resourceful.

The Health Director of Berekum West District, Madam Agnes Aseidu, thanked the lawmaker for his kind gesture.

She pledged that the items would be put to good use to benefit the people in communities in the district. She asked for more support because the Health Directorate has many challenges.
